carolinegpa.jpgHe’s the type of guy who will be wedged under the carriage of your car in a blizzard to fix it so you’ll make it to work on time. He’s the type of guy who regularly goes over to his elderly neighbors’ to simply spend time and share a cup of coffee. He’s the type of guy who will cook an entire dinner just to drop it off at someone else’s house. He’s the type of guy to stop what he’s doing and pull over to help an elderly couple cross a busy street. He’s the type of guy to serve you breakfast in bed when you’re so sick you can barely move. He’s the type of guy to show up every single week in his Sunday’s best. He’s the type of guy to drive you to the airport at 4 in the morning, no questions asked. He’s the type of guy to show up at your doorstep with a toolbox in hand to fix your shower that decided to spout only cold water in mid-February. He’s the type of guy that is selfless, kind, and tremendously generous.

He is my grandfather, and the biggest man I’ve ever met. Women and men look up to him. He is a father to more people than he knows, and the purest soul I have ever met. He is the perfect example of the type of person there should be more of in this world. You can say I’m biased because he, after all, is my flesh and blood, but if you met him you’d understand in an instant.

Kindness, generosity, and love shouldn’t be associated with one gender or another. Take a second today to give credit where it’s due, and salute that man or woman who shines light in your life day in and day out. Give them a little nod. They deserve it.
