ABorinoPicInsecurities. We all have them. It’s a completely normal thing. Especially in teenagers. I, being a freshman in high school, have many. Some very typical 15-year-old things, others not very common among people my age. But how do I deal with them? Answer—I don’t. (Okay, okay, that was a joke). Here are a few ways you can deal with your insecurities.

1. Acceptance

This is clearly the most obvious step: learning to accept your insecurities. Once you realize that nobody is perfect and that everyone has flaws, it’ll be easier for you to start loving yourself. I’m sure you’ve seen those magazines or ads or commercials of those models with the flawless complexions and the perfect bodies. Little tip for you: it’s ALL Photoshop! There are countless videos on the Internet of how to use Photoshop! It’s extremely important to realize that no, you’re not perfect, but no one is.

2. Chin Up!

Okay, so you’ve realized that you’re not the only person in the world with flaws, what’s next? Well, now it’s time for you to feel better about it. Hold your head up high and say, “Hey! My name is _______ and I am not perfect!” The sooner you can be happy with yourself as you are, the sooner you can realize that you’re perfect in your own way. And hey, if you really don’t like something about yourself, you can change it. But honestly, there isn’t really any point in that. You were given one body, one personality, one life. Embrace them! Which brings me to my next tip…

3. Embrace You, You Beautiful You!

The last step is to EMBRACE your insecurities! Don’t hide them. The more you hide, the worse they’ll become. Trust me, I know this first hand. Here’s a little something you can do to help: in front of a full-length mirror, write down a list of everything you do not like about yourself. Then, write down a list of what you love about yourself. Now, read everything out loud and then throw out the list of your insecurities. You’re left with a list of what you love about yourself. Keep that list somewhere safe and the next time you’re feeling low, read it to yourself. I promise it will help you tremendously!

I really hope this helped you figure out a few ways that you can deal with your insecurities. But always remember that no matter what anyone says, you’re truly beautiful inside and out. There is NO SUCH THING as perfection. But there is such a thing as being perfect in YOUR OWN WAY. Love yourself because there’s so much to love, I promise.
