As I grow older, I notice that technology has become a much bigger presence than it ever was when I was growing up. Now, children at younger ages are more addicted to technology, and would rather be inside on an iPad instead of being active. Try to go a day or more without your phones or other technology with this list of…
10 Summer Activities without Technology
- Dinner with friends: It’s better to talk face-to-face than sit with each other with your eyes glued to your phones.
- Read a book: I love just laying in bed with a good book.
- Hike or Walk: Go on a hike or walk with your friends, it’s a great way to get exercise and unwind from everyone’s lives!
- Board Games: As a kid, I used to love playing Scrabble or Monopoly with my family and friends.
- Parks: Visiting a park is a relaxing and enjoyable way to have fun and unwind.
- Sports: Gather at the sports field and put together a fun game of soccer, football, or a water balloon or water-gun fight!
- BBQ: A great way to have great food, and talk to friends.
- Movie Nights or the Mall: A perfect excuse to get out of the house is to walk around the mall, or go see the new summer movie.
- Mini Golf: Re-live childhood by playing a fun game of mini golf.
- Swimming: Hopefully the weather will get warmer and everyone can enjoy laying on noodles in the pool or splashing around.
I hope you will try some of these ideas. At first, it was hard for me to be at work (summer camp) wondering what my friends were doing, who posted a picture on Instagram, or how many texts I had received. This summer I’m really going to try to participate in other activities instead of being on my phone constantly. I hope you do too!
