Blown away!

After a quick conference call with our amazing intern team, I was IN AWE! From LA to West Virginia to good old New Jersey, we’ve got an incredible combination of SMART and FABULOUS young women leading the way!

It occurred to me how luck each of us was on that call. We were all born into families that encouraged us to get educated, pursue our dreams, and  to work hard. Each young women on that call had strived to accomplish getting into great schools, getting jobs, and getting SMART about following their passions.

Not every woman on this planet is that fortunate. It is up to those of us that are to continually look at how we can give back and reach out to women who may not have the opportunities that we do — no matter where they hail from or what language they speak. As Get Smart prepares for the next phase of our outreach, we are excited to provide mentoring for young women in need this coming fall. We look to the courage and leadership of our entire summer intern team to help us lead the way! Please meet our second half of the Get Smart AWESOME SUMMER INTERN TEAM!

Katherine

katherine1.jpgHi! I’m Katherine, I’m 18 and I go to St. John’s University. I will be sophomore in the fall and I’m majoring in Legal Studies with a minor in Spanish. I will be spending the summer at home in Rockland County, NY working at a gym and a day camp. I’m here because I’m the product of positive empowerment by strong women. I’ve experienced first hand how important it is to have positive role models and I want to “pass it on.”

Nicole

Nicole1.jpgHi, I’m Nicole! I’m 18 and going to be a sophomore at catholic university of America in Washington, D.C. And I’m a nursing major! I’m spending my summer at home in New Jersey nannying 3-4 days a week in addition to interning. I am interning because I was involved in Get Smart last summer, but once I started my first year of college I was all over the place. I want to get back to helping spread the message of women empowerment, especially since I will hopefully have a career in a female-dominated field. I want women to know they are valued for who they are and what we are capable of!! Can’t wait to get to know all of you!

Valerie

val1.jpgHi everyone, I’m Valerie! I’m 18 and going to be a sophomore at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. I am a Marketing and Business Information Systems double major. I am also a member of the Varsity Swim Team. I will be spending my summer at home in New Jersey lifeguarding and coaching at my local swim club. I am here because I wish to advocate female empowerment and to spread positive messages for women of all ages. I want women to be confident and know that they are capable of doing anything they set their hearts and minds too! I believe that working with Get Smart would not only allow me to service other women but also allow me to grow and learn more about myself. I look forward to working with all of you!
