ashleyThere is one time a year where many of us sit down and truly think about what we are thankful for. For the other 364 days, we don’t usually make the time to be thankful for all that we have and the people in our lives. December 2nd is Giving Tuesday, a day where people across the globe give back. People around the world will come together to celebrate and honor the kindness of others.

Mentoring is a kindness that not many offered in their lifetime. One person, or multiple people, who come together for a single purpose: helping another succeed. I have been lucky to have a few mentors in my lifetime: one very important one in high school and a few in college. My high school mentor was an extraordinary English teacher who urged me to give more than I thought I was capable of. If anyone has been following my articles, you know I’m a writer and an author; I wouldn’t be either of those things without my high school mentor. She pushed me to be better and she believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. She made a difference, one that gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams.

GivingTuesinternsGet Smart Mentoring delivers the same boost of confidence and support. When you become an intern, you become a part of their network which is full of positivity and an endless supply of support. Get Smart allows women to have opinions and have those opinions valued and validated within the network. It gives them a voice. Get Smart is also about reaching out to others. We reach so many people through our articles and weekly emails to highlight the topics we have chosen to speak about. Get Smart makes a difference by reaching out and by providing the support many young girls and young women don’t have access to. Get Smart cares. Get Smart wants to make a difference.

This Giving Tuesday, please help us make a difference. With the holidays coming up it can be hard to prioritize what you need versus what you want. We aren’t asking you to stop hunting for presents or gifts. Instead, we are asking that you donate something. Instead of getting that $4 coffee, maybe think about donating that money to a cause that could help young women across the country. It’s just a small way that you can give back and show that you care. Please donate to Get Smart here.
