devinThink about a person who has encouraged you, inspired you, and motivated you when no one else did. Someone you look up to for guidance. Remember in elementary school when we gave teachers thank you gifts? It was in appreciation for their kindness, knowledge and for never giving up on their students. Think about Sundays in May and June when there are days dedicated to appreciating fathers and mothers. Who would you like to thank during this Thanksgiving Season?

What Mentoring Means to Me

I want to thank those that have served as mentors to me. Mentoring, in my definition, is the act of guidance. A mentor is someone who cares about your well-being, and promises that you are not alone in the day-to-day challenges. My mom always says, “Been there. Done that.” I can never argue with her, because I know she’s right. She has walked in my shoes, and has faced similar (if not the same) problems that I have. My mom is, and will always be, my mentor.

Giving Tuesday

Now that you have a mentor in mind, how would you like to give thanks? Well, Tuesday, December 2, 2014 is a day dedicated to giving back. On this special Giving Tuesday, I invite you to celebrate the generosity of others alongside non-profit organizations, charities, companies, and families.

GivingTuesinternsSupport Get Smart Mentoring

Having a mentor has helped with my personal growth, and given me the ability to mentor others. Currently, I am an intern for Get Smart Mentoring, a non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring young women. During my time with Get Smart, I have witnessed strong, passionate, and empowering women make a difference in the world. They have written inspiring messages, and given their time to serve young women in the local communities. Being around such enthusiastic and supportive women has also positively impacted my life. I would love it if you could help me show my appreciation for Get Smart. Would you be willing to pass up the daily Starbucks trip for a good cause? It doesn’t take much to show your support.
