EViningPicBlack Friday and Cyber Monday: two days of sales and consumer mayhem. We’ve all heard of them and probably participated, but have you heard of Giving-Tuesday? Just as Black Friday is considered the kick-off to holiday shopping, Giving Tuesday jumpstarts the season of giving. Giving Tuesday is a day devoted to giving back to your local communities, national and international charities, and non-profits.

About Get Smart

This year I have been lucky to intern with Get Smart Mentoring, an organization that is devoted to young women’s leadership development both locally and internationally. Get Smart Mentoring strives to develop young women as authentic compassionate leaders. Volunteer mentors run mentoring workshop in inner city schools in New York and New Jersey and the organization’s online network reaches girls across the globe. Get Smart Mentoring is placing a call for donations on Giving Tuesday. Get Smart is 100% volunteer-run and the donations go directly to administering virtual and live mentoring programs.

Mentoring young women is so important and I truly believe I would not be the person I am today without the aid of mentoring programs such as Get Smart Mentoring. Get Smart creates platforms for women and girls to gain inspiration, education and life skills both virtually and in live workshops. It’s hard being a girl in this world and I am SO grateful that organizations like this exist.

My Get Smart Experience

BGivingTuesday20151y participating as an intern with Get Smart, I’ve had the opportunity to write numerous articles on topics directed to women and girls; Get Smart’s reader audience can have a global reach. I’m so fortunate that I have this opportunity to learn important skills while working on a virtual team. While my participation has been through a virtual presence, I’ve had the chance to learn about the incredible live workshops offered by Get Smart to girls, such as leadership and anti-bullying workshops.
One of my favorite aspects of Get Smart Mentoring is that the organization focuses on service work and giving back to the community. Get Smart encourages young girls and women to volunteer and give back to their communities. And this Giving Tuesday, it’s our time to give back and Get Smart about where we invest our money.

Please consider donating your time and money this Giving Tuesday. ‘Tis the season for giving after all. You may have a beloved organization in mind but I encourage you to donate to Get Smart Mentoring. As a small and completely volunteer-run organization, your money goes a very long way. A $10 donation is a great help and will be used to mentor more girls. This organization has really inspired me and opened my eyes to the importance of mentoring young women. Please, let’s Get Smart and give.
